NORMAN MANEA – Fellow of The Royal Society of Literature
 
 
In a letter of July 22, 2011, Mr. Colin Thubron, President of The Royal Society of Literature of Great Britain, had invited the Romanian writer to become a Fellow of RSL.
 
Created in 1920, by George IV, The Royal Society of Literature has as its goal „to excite literary talent and reward literary merit.” Among its Fellows are the Nobel laureates, Nadine Gordimer, Gunther Grass, Seamus Heaney, Doris Lessing, V.S. Naipaul, as well as Salman Rushdie, Ian McEwan, Alice Munro, John Banville, Umberto Eco, Kazuo Ishiguro, George Steiner.
 
Norman Manea is the first Romanian writer to be honored by the prestigious English institution.
